Originally a Southern California girl, Christmas day always reminds me of bikes, roller skates and basketballs. Rip, open, play! Barcelona's likely to be sunny on Christmas Day, too. Gotta new bike, but no balance? Conquer your new ride on the promenade in Park Ciutadella between Passeig Pujades and the zoo. Nice and flat, long and straight, no cement. Take a big breath of sea air, and, GO!

Oh, how few left! A genuine bean shop. All different kinds of cooked beans. More than you ever knew you needed. And well, that's pretty much it. Nada más. Bring your newspaper.
At the far eastern arm of Mallorca, I twist between the mountains, in the car, afraid to look down, happy to meet the goats waiting at the end of the road below the lighthouse. Now I wait for the sun to sink low. A UNESCO site for a reason!
Last year on Easter Sunday, Olivia and I got up early for an experiment. We hid eggs in the plaza and bet each other how long it would take for our neighborhood to find them. We made it easy, but an Easter egg hunt is not a tradition around here. It took six hours!
Lovely tradition for January 6th! When you find the little king in the cake, you are big king for the day. My favorite bakery for the Rascon: the King's Cake, Patisseria-Bomboneria Mont-Rodon. Address: Travessera de Les Corts 269. Expect a line out the door. Reserve now!
Folk art in terra cotta, found in thrift shops and antique stores. I am drawn to the farm animals, so my collection lacks a few important characters!
The civil war, a tangle of sides, and a mish-mash of motives. A lasting influence on Barcelona's story. Finally, easier to understand with help from guide. For an overview of this gruesome period, I liked best the tour conducted by Nick Lloyd of Iberia Nature. Cheat sheets provided! www.iberianature.com
When Quinn came to visit he carried his sketchbook everywhere. Take a look at his portfolio and wonder how he does it! Every year around Halloween, I'm reminded to
look at them again. A few lines, so much personality! http://www.behance.net/gallery/Barcelona-Notebook/7764799 |
